KUALA TERENGGANU, May 1 (Bernama) -- Terengganu FC scored two first-half goals to sink Pahang 2-1 in an exciting FA Cup quarter-final, first-leg tie at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium here today.
Playing in front of more than 10,000 home fans, Terengganu FC opened the scoring when Malaysian-England mixed parentage player Lee Tuck threaded a brilliant pass for Malik Mat Arif to latch on to and beat the offside trap before outsmarting Pahang goalkeeper Helmi Eliza Elias in the ninth minute.
Terengganu FC then doubled their lead in the 26th minute when Kipre Tchetche, who is dubbed ‘Drogba Ganu’, let fly a screamer.
Pahang began the second half in earnest as they stepped up a gear.
Their efforts paid off when Brazilian Jose Eduardo Bischofe headed home a cross from skipper Matthew Thomas Davis in the 57th minute to narrow the deficit.
Tchetche had a good chance to restore Terengganu FC’s two-goal cushion but fluffed his effort in injury time.
