GEORGE TOWN, April 13 (Bernama) -- National tenpin bowling champions Adrian Ang and Esther Cheah were crowned Penang Sportsman and Sportswoman for the year 2017/2018.
Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas presented the awards to them in a ceremony here tonight.
Adrian, 31, when met by reporters said the recognition was something to be proud of after ten years of hard work put in to improve his bowling.
"I intend to be a coach in future but if the country and state still need me, I am always prepared to be at their service," said Adrian who hails from Pulau Tikus and was accompanied by his wife and child at the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Penang Football Association (FAP) deputy president Datuk Abdul Rashid Ismail, representing football won the 2019 Leadership (Football) Award, while Chin Hajeed representing pencak silat won the Sports Personality Award.
In this biennial sports awards, a total of 49 candidates including athletes, coaches and sports leaders in 11 categories were conferred the highest recognition at Penang state level for 2017/2018.
The 11 categories were Best Coach, Sports Personality, Sportsman, Sportswoman, Women's Team, Men's Team, Paralympic Sportswoman, Paralympic Sportsman, Aspiring Sportsman and Sportswoman as well as Leadership Personality.
