PUTRAJAYA, April 11 (Bernama) -- National rhythmic gymnast Izzah Amzan is aware that she will have to work very hard to win a spot in the team for the Manila SEA Games in the Philippines, no thanks to the presence of several young gymnasts, especially Rayna Hoh, and the experienced Amy Kwan Dict Weng.
Only the two best gymnasts will be selected to compete in the Games this December.
However, Izzah, 18, is ready for the fight.
“Although it will be a tough fight to earn a spot in the team, I am confident I stand a good chance,” she said after the 2018 Education Ministry (MOE)-Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM)-Milo Sports Award ceremony.
The Bukit Jalil Sports School student won the Sportsgirl Award after enjoying great success last year, bagging a silver medal in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and five golds and a silver at the ASEAN Schools Championship in Kuala Lumpur.
“Grateful for this recognition. Frankly, I never expected to be chosen for this award. This is a very prestigious award for a young athlete like me,” she said.
