Farhan, Amy Kwan win 2018 Selangor Sportsman, Sportswoman Awards

SHAH ALAM, March 28 (Bernama) -- National sepak takraw player Farhan Adam and national gymnast Amy Kwan Dict Weng were each crowned as the 2018 Selangor Sportsman and Sportswoman, respectively, today.

They each received accompanying trophies and RM10,000 which were handed over by Tengku Indera Setia Selangor, Tengku Ahmad Shah who was representing the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah at the 2018 Selangor State Sports Award Ceremony, held at a hotel here.

Farhan Adam, 29, was one of the players who had helped Malaysia end the 24-year gold medal drought at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, while Kwan, 24, won four gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Athletics athlete, Muhammad Ilham Suhaimi, 18, and swimmer Nessa Yip Yi Wen,15 were announced as 2018 Most Promising Sportsman and Sportswoman of Selangor, and each received a trophy and a certificate and Bank Simpanan Nasional’s premium saving certificate of RM5,000.

Muhammad Ilham, who is a Sekolah Sukan Tunku Ismail (SSTMI), pre-university student was excellent when he contributed four of the 10 Malaysian gold medals at the 2018 ASEAN Schools Games, while Nessa won two gold medals and a silver medal at the 2018 Malaysian Games in Perak.

In the meantime, Farhan, who was met by reporters after the ceremony, was proud at being the first sepaktakraw player to receive the award and regarded the award as a recognition of the game of sepaktakraw.

‘’This award will be my main motivator to become a more successful player in future,’’ he said.

Kwan, who was the 2018 Woman Olympian also expressed her happiness at receiving the award after becoming a national athlete.

‘’It will surely by a catalyst for me to perform my best for Selangor and Malaysia in the future,’’ she said.
