KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 (Bernama) -- Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar has been appointed as the new Director-General of the Malaysian Syariah Judiciary Department.

According to a statement from the Office of a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof, Mohd Na'im previously held the post of Chief Syarie Judge in the Selangor State Syariah Judiciary Department and Director of the Family Support Division at the Malaysian Syariah Judiciary Department.

He was also previously appointed a judge of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Syariah Court.

In addition, he was formerly a member of the Panel of Islamic Consultative Council and a member of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) Committee.

Mohd Na'ím had also been appointed as adjunct professor by the Faculty of Law University Technology Mara (UiTM) in 2012, the statement said.

The statement added that his expertise was also recognised internationally when he was appointed as a Malaysian Chevening Visiting Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, United Kingdom for the year 2008/2009, Visiting Fellow at the Harvard Law School, United States and served at the University of Harvard from February until May 2013.

Mohd Na'im began his career as a law lecturer at the International Islamic University Malaysia from 1990 until 1997.
