DBKL must understand Ramadan traders' problems - P. Prabakaran

25/03/2019 09:45 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, March  25 (Bernama) -- Batu Member of Parliament P. Prabakaran proposed that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) take steps to identify every possible problem which may be faced by applicants of the Ramadan Bazaar lots as the council will be managing the bazaar beginning this year.

He said application for the Ramadan Bazaar lots was made through online system.

“Though this is cost effective, how many of these vendors are technology savvy?

“"As a result, touts will take advantage of the situation by applying on behalf of the people who are not good with computer and will charge them for the online registration," he said when debating the motion of thanks for the address by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in the Dewan Rakyat today.

It was earlier reported by the media that DBKL had opened its online licence application for this year's Ramadan Bazaar on Feb 15 and the bazaar would be handled fully by DBKL without interference from external organisers such as non-governmental organisations, associations and individuals.

The vendors had opposed the move as they wanted the previous system to be maintained. However DBKL reportedly insisted that the Ramadan lots would be fully managed by them.

The Dewan Rakyat sitting continues tomorrow.
