MARANG, March 19 (Bernama) -- The squid jigging season, which is usually the main attraction for tourists visiting Marang, Tereengganu, will be used to promote other 'hidden' tourism products in the area.

Marang District Officer Tun Ahmad Faisal Tun Abdul Razak said this included handicraft, traditional food, interesting sporting and local cultural destinations.

"Marang has eight mukims, namely Merchang, Binjai Rendah, Bukit Payong, Wakaf Tapai, Alor Limbat, Rusila, Pulau Kerengga and Jerong, and we want each of these mukims to find 10 unique features that can attract tourists.

"All these products will also be documented in a special travel guide to be distributed within and outside the country," he told Bernama, here today.

The town of Marang which is located 15km from Kuala Terengganu, makes it an accessible tourist destination.

Among the popular tourism products in Marang are water sports events such as the Swimathon and the Cultural Fiesta at the Kelulut Beach, besides the Squid Jigging Festival in Pulau Kapas.
