KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Youth and Sports today announced the appointment of Datuk Noorul Ariffin Abdul Majeed as new chairman of the National Athletes Welfare Foundation (Yakeb) effective March 8, 2019 until March 7, 2021.
Its minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman in a statement today said it was hoped that Yakeb would be managed in a more organised manner with this appointment.
“I am confident that following this move, sponsors will take the opportunity to assist the former athletes and help Yakeb to implement initiatives which have been approved by the government," he said.
Noorul Ariffin, 54, who has been a Yakeb member since 2008 has also served as Yakeb board member since 2016.
The former vice-president of the Malaysian Athletic Union (KOM) had also served as president of the Johor Amateur Athletics Association.
In addition, Noorul Ariffin who was a national athlete from 1983 to 1995 in the 3,000m steeplechase event, participated in the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games in 1989.
He had also won a gold medal at the 1993 Malaysia Open Athletics Championship.
