Zainal wants Melaka United to cut down on mistakes, tighten defence

MELAKA, Feb 8 (Bernama) -- Melaka United head coach Zainal Abidin Hassan is a pragmatic person.

Although his team started their Super League campaign with a 2-1 win over Petaling Jaya FC last week, he believes that they still need to work on some of their shortcomings as they prepare to face PKNS FC in Shah Alam, Selangor tomorrow.

Zainal, 57, is specifically focusing on two things: cutting down on making silly mistakes and rectifying their weaknesses when defending.

“The weaknesses I pointed out is not our defenders’ fault but that of the whole team. When we defend, it is important that we do it as a team and that’s something we will improve on in our coming matches, starting with PKNS FC,” he told Bernama after their training session here.

Zainal said PKNS FC deserved to be treated with respect, having played in the Malaysia League (M-League) for a long time and comprising players of high quality.

Meanwhile, experienced Melaka United player Shukor Adan has also urged his teammates to be fully focused and give 100 percent commitment for the full 90 minutes against PKNS tomorrow.

The 40-year-old advised his teammates not to underestimate their rivals, saying they would have to perform way better than in their opening match if they hope to get all three points against PKNS, who drew their opening tie 1-1 with Terengganu last Friday.
