'Saya yang menjalankan amanah' phrase a reminder for civil servants - Johor MB

JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- The phrase ‘saya yang menjalankan amanah’ (I who carry out the trust) has been seen as a reminder to civil servants to return to the responsibilities entrusted to them and to continue giving their best service to the people.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian said the change in the civil servant’s sign-off phase from the previous ‘saya yang menurut perintah’ (I who obey orders), also meant that there was a change in the roles and functions of the state administrative officers.

“They should not simply do their work and obey orders like a Yes Man, but they must be smart in playing their roles and discharging every task entrusted to them.

“Besides, state administrative officers ​​​​​​​must also be able to think and act professionally, and, if necessary, to give their opinions for the sake of the people and the state. What’s important is that the opinions must be sincere and for the benefit of the people and the state.”

The menteri besar said this when opening the Career Advancement Programme for State Administrative Officers of Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu 2019 at the Persada International Convention Centre, here today.

Osman said the state administrative officers were the front liners of the state government, and hence the advice to discharge their duties in the most honest and trustworthy manner. 

“The change in the sign-off phrase will definitely improve loyalty and enhance the awareness among the civil servants on the importance of integrity and working in high spirit as the future of the country actually depends on the honesty of civil servants in discharging their duties,” he said.

The programme, which began today and will end on Feb 10, sees the participation of approximately 600 administrative officers from the four states.
