LANGKAWI, Feb 3 (Bernama) -- The ‘kuih bunga pudak’ is among Kedah’s traditional delicacies being promoted at the Traditional Cakes and Cookies Fair at the Langkawi Craft Complex from yesterday to Wednesday (Feb 6).
A traditional ‘kuih’ trader Siti Khalijah Saad, 50, said although it is easy to make them, these crisp cookies with sweet coconut filling have become increasingly rare as the present generation have not inherited the skill from their parents.
"The ingredients for this delicious treat are easily available as they comprise glutinous rice flour, water and salt to prepare the batter while the filling is made of grated coconut, sugar and food colourings.
"To prepare the crepe-like sheet or skin, the batter is sifted onto a pan and the filling is then placed in the centre of the cooked batter and folded into a square shape,” she said when met by Bernama at the Langkawi Craft Complex at Mukim Bohor here today.
Apart from the kuih bunga pudak visitors to the handicraft centre will be able to acquire skills in making other traditional delicacies such as the ‘kuih loyang’, ‘kuih karas’, ‘peneram’ and ‘buah melaka.
Meanwhile, Langkawi Craft Complex promotion officer Nik Azreen Nik Ului said the event is being held from 10am to 6pm to cater to the crowd in conjunction with Chinese New Year holidays.
