On June 18, 2018 was proclaimed as Yang Amat Mulia Tengku Panglima Besar Pahang at the Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Resam Melayu Pahang (MUIP) office.

Tengku Hassanal is a sports enthusiast. On June 25, 2016, Tengku Hassanal participated a charity polo event named The Jerudong Park Polo Trophy together with HRH Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and HRH Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, at Cirencester Polo Park, England.
Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah also graced the event.
Besides a fondness for polo, Tengku Hassanal also has a keen interest in rugby, football, golf, shooting and tele-matches.
