KANGAR, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- Finally, there is light at the end of the tunnel for the 18 players owed nine months’ salary by the Perlis Football Association (PFA).
The players and PFA, together with president Datuk Ahmad Amizal Shaifit Ahmad Rafie, will meet tomorrow in the hope of reaching an amicable solution so that the Northern Lions can focus on the Malaysia League (M-League), which begins on Feb 1.
PFA deputy president Mohd Abdul Karim Khan Mansor Ahmad Khan said they would try to settle the issue within the 60 days (from Dec 28 last year) stipulated by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and the Malaysia Football League (MFL).
“The president hopes to reach a decision that will satisfy both parties,” Mohd Abdul Karim Khan said today, adding that PFA never ignored the fact that they owed the players nine months’ salary since last March amounting to RM460,000.
Meanwhile, Perlis held a function at a leading hotel here yesterday to launch their jerseys as well as introduce their three new foreign imports – Japan’s Masaki Watanabe and Brazilians Wellington Cirino Priori and Valci Teixeira Jr.
Perlis head coach Manzoor Azwira Abd Wahid is confident the trio will boost the team’s chances in the Premier League this season after watching his experienced local players, like Safee Sali and Mohd Badhri Mohd Radzi, combining so well with the juniors in their pre-season friendlies.
