SATUN (Thailand), Jan 7 (Bernama) -- The Perlis Broadcasting Department (RTM) and Radio Thailand Satun will renew their bilateral cooperation, particularly in sharing current news and religious programmes, which stopped in 1996.
The department’s director, Ahmad Zaki Mustafa said as an inital measure, both parties would hold discussions to identify ways to forge cooperation.
“Previously, we had to go to the border to exchange materials such as compact discs and taped recordings. This method involved costs and time. By using technology such as the Internet, the sharing of materials will be faster and easier.”
He said this to Bernama today after joining the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail’s visit programme, Ziarah Mahabbah, to Satun, one of the southern provinces of Thailand, yesterday.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin and Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil also visited the broadcasting station, here.
At the end of that visit, Ahmad Zaki handed the letter of intent to Radio Thailand Satun director, Lieutenant Commander, Nosma Leesen, to resume bilateral cooperation between the two sides.
According to him, Nosma welcomed the proposed cooperation and she would be bringing up the matter to the Public Relations Department, Prime Minister’s Office of Thailand.
He said Nosma also hoped the cooperation would include exchange of information on culture, tourism and religion. "I will also bring the matter to the attention of the higher-ups in Malaysia," he added.
Radio Thailand Satun can be heard on two FM frequencies and one AM frequency, and the broadcasts are in the Thai language and Malay.
FM 95.5 MHz covers Satun province from Tambon Khuan Khan district, parts of Trang, Songkhla and Phatthalung, and Malaysia (Perlis, Langkawi and north Kedah), FM 99.5 MHz (Satun province, parts of Trang, Songkhla and Phatthalung and Malaysia - Perlis and Langkawi) and AM1206 kHz (from Khuan Khan Muang and covers Satun province).
The FM 95.5 MHz and FM 99.5 MHz have different programmes.
