Nordin vows to boost governance of DBKK

KOTA KINABALU, Dec 31 (Bernama) -- Kota Kinabalu’s new City Mayor, Datuk Nordin Siman vows to head Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) towards a better governance, integrity, promptness and prudence for the well-being of the people based on the direction of the state government. 

Nordin said he would ensure DBKK carried out its responsibility based on the 'Fast Forward: Effective and Efficient' aspiration to empower a high performance work culture to further boost the reputation and credibility of DBKK as a pioneer of a clean, green and inhabitable city.

‘’The aspiration will focus on three target groups, namely, business community; sub-urban community and the overall communities including city residents, workers, tourists, professionals and all strata of society.

‘’Surely, the aspiration is in line with the direction and the mission to sustain the progress and well-being of the people and the state. I promise to give the best service and head DBKK with responsibility, integrity, professionalism and focus on the people,’’ he said in his speech at the handing over of duty here today.

Nordin, 61, the Public Service Department director since 2007, earlier signed a note over his receipt of duty from former Datuk Yeo Boon Hai, who was retiring, witnesses by State Secretary Datuk Hashim Paiman.

Yeo, 61, was the mayor for two years and 11 months from Feb 2, 2016.

Nordin said DBKK was an organisation which was always close to his heart because he was one of the DBKK’s Advisory Board member since 2010.

He also vowed to reduce bureaucratic red tape and ensure the DBKK work system guaranteed a fast and effective approval other than working together with government and private sector agencies in ensuring the success of programmes or projects for the well-being of the people.

‘’DBKK too will continue to empower the co-operation network with security bodies including the Royal Malaysian Police in optimising security in the city,’’ he said.

The initiatives headed by Yeo in ensuring cleanliness, beauty and cheerfulness of DBKK, which was currently underway, would be continued by stressing on best work quality, prudent spending and significant impact to society, he added.
