TANJUNG MALIM, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- The state government has completed the handing over of  land titles to 97.55 percent or 5,772 of Felda settlers in Perak to date.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said currently only 545 settlers had yet to receive land deeds involving four Felda land schemes, scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of next year.

"In the context of  Felda land ownership rights, I understand the constraints caused by some technical issues involving settlers who have died, management of inheritance, estate and so on.

"We (the state government) have introduced the e-Land system and hope to facilitate all matters in the land office. I have also directed the director of the State Land and Mines Office to expedite the process of handing over the remaining (of Felda) land titles throughout Perak next year,” he said.

Ahmad Faizal was speaking at a ceremony where he handed over land titles to 179 settlers from Felda Sungai Behrang here today.

Also present was National Felda Settlers head Sulong Jamil Mohamad Shariff who is also the Trolak Region Felda Settlers head.

Currently, only some settlers from Felda Ijok in Kubu Gajah, Felda Trolak Timur, Felda Trolak Selatan and Felda Gunung Besout 3 of the 17 land development schemes, were still waiting to receive their land titles, expected to be given soon.

At a press conference later, Ahmad Faizal also said the state government would look for the best mechanism to help address the problems faced by Felda over the New Generation Housing project which has been classified as “delayed”.

He said he was ready to assist Felda in terms of infrastructure provisions and to discuss with the Perak Housing and Real Estate Board (LPHB) to provide cooperation in purchasing houses for the second generation.

"The problem faced by the second generation is that they do not have salary slips, so we have to talk to the appropriate parties to simplify the purchase process rather than deal with the banks," he said.

Prior to that, Sulong Jamil in his speech suggested that the government should make it easier for government agencies to enter the Felda land schemes to help complete the New Generation Housing project.

"We hope the government eases the terms and open the space for government agencies such as Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) to assist Felda in pursuing the housing project for the second generation besides further enhancing cooperation with the state government," he said.
