SHAH ALAM, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- Newly elected Balakong assemblyman Wong Siew Ki and Seri Setia assemblyman Halimey Abu Bakar were officially sworn in at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here today.
Wong and Halimey took their oath of office before Selangor State Assembly speaker Ng Sue Lim.
The swearing in was held before the tabling of the state 2019 budget by Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.
Both Wong (DAP) and Halimey (PKR) won their seats in the by-elections that were held simultaneously on Sept 8.
Wong, 32, defeated MCA candidate Tan Chee Teong with a majority of 18,533 votes while Halimey, 46, edged out PAS candidate Dr Halimah Ali with 4,027-vote majority.
The Balakong by-election was held following the death of incumbent Eddie Ng Tien Chie from DAP in a road accident on July 20, while by-election in Seri Setia was held following the death of the incumbent from PKR, Prof Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin due to colon cancer on Aug 2.
