SANDAKAN, Nov 23 (Bernama) - A total of 34 national-type Chinese schools and kindergartens together with 21 non-Muslim religious organisations in this district received assistance from the state government amounting to RM3.7 million.
Of the total aid, RM1.8 million was for national-type Chinese schools and kindergartens, while RM1.9 million went to churches, Chinese and Hindu temples.
The aid was delivered by state assistant finance minister Kenny Chua Teck Ho at a ceremony here today.
Speaking at the event, Chua said although the new state government was financially hard-pressed, the assistance to schools and non-Muslim religious organisations would continue as the focus was on development and repair work.
He said this year, the state government had approved an allocation of RM34.6 million for the development and improvement of national-type Chinese schools and kindergartens and to non-Muslim religious organisations.
Chua added that a total of 275 national-type Chinese schools, kindergartens and 279 non-Muslim religious organisations in the country received the aid.
