PKPK should be chosen as IBS contractor and manufacturer - CIDB

04/11/2018 07:39 PM

KOTA BHARU, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) hopes that the Kelantan Housing Contractors Association (PKPK) will be chosen as a contractor and Industrialised Building System (IBS) manufacturer for the East Coast, especially for Kelantan, in carrying out housing projects.

Senior General Manager (Technology Development Sector) Datuk Ir Elias Ismail said the board was happy with PKPK’s success in implementing Kelantan’s first IBS project.

“This was the result of a joint venture between the housing board and CIDB MyIBS with the aim of increasing the number of IBS producers in the state.

“As of October 2018, seven IBS producers have registered with the CIDB in Kelantan but only one uses the precast concrete system,” he told reporters after visiting the site of the Dewan Beta housing project that would adopt the IBS technology.

Elias said the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by PKPK and CIDB back in February was intended to increase the number of IBS producers and concurrently, encourage both the public and private sectors to adopt IBS.

“The cooperation between CIDB MyIBS and PKPK forms part of CIDB’s efforts to increase IBS usage in the private sector, in line with the Bumiputera Economic Empowerment Agenda’s goal to benefit Bumiputera contractors who form the majority of PKPK’s members,” he said.

Elias said the MoU was aligned with the Construction Industry Transformation Plan 2016-2020’s core productivity strategy of increasing the number of IBS manufacturers and the productivity level of the construction sector.

“Apart from this, the National Council for Local Government has given a mandate for IBS to be used for all private projects with a minimum value of RM50 million and hopes to achieve a minimum IBS score of 50 per cent by 2020.

“For public sector projects, the Ministry of Finance has mandated that all projects more than RM10 million must have an IBS score of 70 per cent since 2008,” he added.
