KUCHING, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- Sarawak Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah urged Sarawakians to be more creative and bold in diversifying the state's tourism offerings.
Abdul Karim cited the Miss World Malaysia 2018 held here at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last month as an example of programmes that would generate long term positive publicity for Sarawak.
“The hosting of a national pageant affiliated with a global brand is one such example of promoting Sarawak to niche segments,” he told a press conference before attending the appreciation dinner for the press and organising committee here tonight.
Also present were Damien Sii, representative of Creative Teamlab, the organiser of Miss World Malaysia 2018; pageant winner Sarawakian lass Larissa Ping Liew, first runner-up Shannen Jade from Kuala Lumpur and second runner-up Naomi Sim from Sarawak.
The pageant saw the 19-year-old Ping defeating 11 other contestants to be crowned Miss World Malaysia 2018. She will be representing the country at the 68th Miss World Final at Sanya, China in December.
