KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) is planning to make Technology Security Assurance (TSA) certification mandatory to all cyber security product manufacturers in the country.
Deputy Minister Eddin Syazlee Shith said this was to ensure that all security equipment manufactured by local manufacturers will meet the stipulated standards and quality.
“Local companies will have an advantage if they were TSA certified as they will have some kind of recognition that their products are secured, safe and trusted, hence enabling them to compete internationally.
“The cost to get the certification is cheaper and it can be obtained within four to six months,” he said when opening the CyberSecurity Malaysia - Awards, Conference & Exhibition (CSM-ACE) 2018 at the Royale Chulan Hotel here yesterday.
The TSA is a national-level scheme under the CyberSecurity Malaysia which offers evaluation and certification services for local ICT products, such as closed-circuit television cameras and smart cards.
Eddin Syazlee said the matter would be further discussed and considered by the ministry first before being taken to the Cabinet’s attention.
“If possible, we want to expedite the implementation as this is a good plan for cyber security in Malaysia, but it is up to the minister (Gobind Singh Deo) to discuss it first,” he added.
