Galeri Petronas hosts fashion showcase for 8 young designers

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- From street style, futuristic, candy couture, kabuki-inspired and more, eight young designers showcased their creativity and ingenuity at the ‘Art to Wear – Fashion Presentation’ organised by Galeri Petronas, here, last Saturday.

They presented 32 collections in all under the broad themes, artistic and experimentation.

The eight participating designers were Dayang Intan Almurid, with the theme, Elements of Tokyo Street Style; Lydia Natasha Azmi (Candy Couture); Faiz Ripin (Harley-Davidson Art); Eliyana Erni Yusoff (Naive Art Reimagined); Arie Sampornak (The Mask); Ixora Kamarulbaharin (Future Tradition); Aida Ismail (Art of Fabric Manipulations) and Naim Hasbullah (Kabuki Revisited).

Galeri Petronas director, Intan Razak said such a presentation was the best platform for young fashion designers to increase their knowledge and further hone their skills, besides showing off their talent.

“I am excited with their creations displayed today. They are very talented and creative. We want them to feel confident about their fashion creations.

“Hopefully, the platform provided by us and support from the media could help enhance their talent and give them exposure, besides creating public awareness of new fashion trends,” she told Bernama.

​​​Meanwhile, programme curator and UiTM fashion design senior lecturer, Faizal Hamid said they were thankful to Galeri Petronas for organising the event in supporting local arts and culture.

“It has shown that these young fashion designers have a fine vision and mission in the fashion industry. Their aspirations and creations showcased have been exciting.

“We also want society to appreciate fashion as an art form. It a painting uses colours, fashion uses fabric as a medium for the creations,” he added.
