FAM ready to cooperate with MFL to improve refereeing system in M-League

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 (Bernama) – The Football Association of Malaysia is ready to work closely with the Malaysian League (M-League) administrator, Malaysian Football League (MFL), to improve the refereeing system in the League itself.

FAM secretary-general  Stuart Michael Ramalingam said the national body is willing to discuss and refine the matter in more detail with MFL, especially in terms of the technical aspects and implementation to ensure that the quality of refereeing can be resolved.

"FAM supports and welcomes the initiative by Malaysian Football League (MFL) through a statement on their Facebook account last night regarding the use of professional referees to improve the quality of refereeing for the Malaysian League in the future,” Ramalingam was quoted as saying in a statement issued by FAM, today.

Commenting further, he said that the professional referee development programme is in line with FAM's agenda as it is one of the 30 items contained in the leadership and expectations core under Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin who was elected as the seventh FAM president on July 14.

MFL in the statement issued yesterday revealed that they are currently studying plans to establish a professional referee management company which is among the initiatives to improve the quality of refereeing in the M-League matches in the future.

The idea to establish the company was based on the research case – ‘Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) which is currently being implemented in top football leagues such as  the English Premier League and also two leagues in the Asian region – J-League dan K-League.
