GOPENG, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- Wushu athlete, Mohammad Adi Salihin cheered up up the Brunei contingent with a silver medal in the men's Nanquan category at the 19th Malaysia Games at the Perak Matriculation College here.

Mohammad Adi, 18, narrowly lost 0.04 points to the winner of the gold medal Calvin Lee Wai Leong of Negri Sembilan (9.54 points) while bronze medal went to Penang athlete Chuah Shangyang with 9.48 points.

Mohammad Adi said the experience in the 2018 Asian Games gave him the confidence to show his best performance today but conceded he made mistakes in some moves during the final.

"I was not thinking of winning a medal but I just want to enjoy my every single performance. Besides that, I can also learn new techniques from competitors in Malaysia, "he told Bernama.

Mohammad Adi, who had been involved in wushu since 10 years ago and was making his second appearance at SUKMA, also hoped to defend the Nandao category silver medal that would take place today.

Meanwhile, a small athlete from the Kelantan contingent, Nor Azira Kamarudzaman, 13, also grabbed attention after winning the silver medal in the women's Nanquan event on her first appearance at SUKMA.

"I was not thinking of winning a medal but of gaining experience here. I failed in previous selections, so when given the opportunity I want to give my best," said the athlete who aspired to be a policewoman.

Nor Azira collected 9.25 points to lose to Tan Cheong Min from Melaka (9.56 points) and Lee Hui Xian of Sarawak won a bronze medal with 9.05 points.
