Halimey ensures best education infrastructure in Seri Setia

PETALING JAYA, Aug 23 (Bernama) – With his experience as a former member of the Petaling Jaya City Council, Halimey Abu Bakar is determined to ensure that the educational infrastructure in the Seri Setia state constituency is at the best level if he is elected the people’s representative on Sept 8.

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate in the coming by-election said a lot of infrastructure in the area has to be improved, especially involving kindergartens.

Similarly, he said, the library facilities could be improved, especially internet accessibility and the latest applications.

“I am proposing that a community hall be built which could be used as a tuition centre and a place for students to study. At the same time, mosques and places of worship could also be turned into excellence centres,” Halimey said at a press conference here today.

Halimey will face PAS candidate Dr Halimah Ali, a former Selangor Exco member, in a straight fight in the by-election which is held following the death of its incumbent assemblyman Prof Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin from colon cancer on Aug 2.

He added that he will also look at increasing activities which boost mastery of the English Language, Mandarin, Tamil and other world languages like Japanese and Korean, in the constituency so that the locals can interact with others such as tourists, as well as increase their chances of getting jobs.

“I will also work with the parents-teachers’ associations to organise seminars, motivational programmes and student leadership camps,” Halimey said, adding that efforts will be made to expose students to international programmes.

Commenting on a statement by Dr Halimah yesterday that a strong opposition voice was needed in Selangor, Halimey said he would be the voice of the voters there.

Earlier, Halimey visited a community library in Kampung Lindungan, the first such facility made from a shipping container, which was his initiative when he was in MBPJ.

The library which has been in operations since early this year is fully funded by the Selangor Public Library Corporation at a cost of RM700,000.
