Ibrahim Ali sets up new political party

17/08/2018 08:27 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa president Datuk Dr Ibrahim Ali today announced the setting up of a new political party, Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra).

Ibrahim is the pro-tem president of Putra while former UMNO Supreme Council member Tan Sri Khalid Yunus is the pro-tem deputy president.

“The party was set up after I received many requests from various people who were uneasy with the current political situation. We hope the party will be an alternative for Muslims in the country,” he said at a press conference here.

Ibrahim said Putra would champion the interests of the Muslims and Malays while defending the Federal Constitution.

Putra, which would use the ‘tanjak’ (headgear) as its symbol, submitted its application for registration to the Registrar of Societies on Aug 13, he said.

He also said that his position as the president of Perkasa would be determined at the general meeting of the pressure group in October.
