KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 (Bernama) – Would you like to get a taste of Taiwan? Then head to the One Town One Product (OTOP) store which opened in Sunway Velocity Mall, Cheras yesterday.
For three days, food tasting and product testing will be held at the store operated by Jimrosa (M) Sdn Bhd. Activities in conjunction with the Qixi Festival, also known as Chinese Valentine’s Day, are also being organised.
Among the speciality products from 14 selected brands to be found at Malaysia’s first OTOP store are aboriginal superfood Djulis red quinoa, Man Chi Food honey twist crackers, Shu’s Pottery colour-changing mug as well as the Taiwan Rou-Guan micro-towel which moisturises and massages, and is a huge hit in the country.
The OTOP initiative by the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration under Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs was started in 1989 to promote the growth and development of unique products from 368 local towns. Today, these Taiwanese products can be found in Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States and many other markets.
Corporate Synergy Development Center director, Molly Lin, who attended the store opening marked by a lion dance, said: “This first wave features a wide variety of products. The showcase store will spearhead the OTOP branding in Malaysia and encourage more Malaysians to personally experience the best products on offer from Taiwanese towns.”
