PPIM uges ministry to monitor car repossession agents

08/08/2018 12:02 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) today urged the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry to monitor issues concerning the activity and misconduct of car repossessor or Repossession Agent (EPS).

PPIM chief activist Datuk Nadzim Johan said this was because many car repossessors failed to produce and show their EPS permit and official repossession letter from the bank when asked by the car owners.

“This is an oppression of consumers (car owners)…..those with the permit should follow the standard code of ethics and procedures.

Nadzim said the repossession agents must always be able to show their permit, should dress properly and not to act violently while repossessing one’s car.

He said the PPIM also urged the ministry to release the statistics on the current EPS permit holders and details on those who had their permits revoked as a guidelines for the consumers.

“Right now, we don’t know the exact number of EPS permit holders...or whether some people are abusing the permit,” he told a press conference here today.

A video showing Nadzim thwarting an attempt by two illegal car repossessors to repossess a car went viral recently, prompting many consumers to share their bad experiences with “such agents”.
