KLANG, July 5 (Bernama) -- The Royal Klang City Council (MBDK) has teamed up with 99 Speedmart Retail Holdings Bhd (99 Speedmart) to collect 700 bags of blood to be donated to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang.
MBDK Mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said the initiative aims to help the hospital maintain a steady monthly blood supply of 3,000 bags, covering all blood types to meet the needs of patients.
“This effort must be ongoing as it is a life-saving mission. This is the second series of blood donation drives organised by 99 Speedmart, following the successful surpassing of last year’s target of more than 620 bags.
“Although the blood supply at HTAR remains stable, MBDK believes there is no room for complacency, as each bag expires after 40 days. Continuous donation efforts are essential,” he told reporters after launching the blood donation campaign here today. The event was also attended by 99 Speedmart chief operating officer Yong Eng Kwang.
Meanwhile, Yong said the target of collecting 700 bags is expected to be achieved by 3 pm today, with most donors being 99 Speedmart employees based in Klang.
He added that 99 Speedmart currently has 25,000 employees nationwide, with 8,000 stationed at branches around Klang. Hence, the goal of 700 bags is realistic for this campaign.
“This campaign is not limited to 99 Speedmart staff. We also welcome the public, especially Klang residents, to join us in donating blood,” he added.
