SHAH ALAM, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Communications is in the process of amending the Postal Services Act 2012 to ensure a more sustainable, competitive postal services ecosystem, as well as guaranteeing the welfare of workers.

Its Minister, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said that for this purpose, his ministry had received an initial draft report from a consultant who conducted a study with players of the industry and delivery services.

He said a meeting with the parties involved was held about two weeks ago and his ministry was collecting information for a more in-depth study before drafting amendments to the act.

“The Postal Services Act was enacted in 2012, when we had not approved as many (delivery) licensees as we have seen today.

“At that time, there was also no proliferation of e-commerce platforms that had an impact on Pos Malaysia ecosystem,” he told a press conference after launching Redly Pos Malaysia International in conjunction with World Post Day 2025 at the National Mail Centre here today.

Fahmi said several amendments needed to be made to the act to ensure the sustainability of the delivery industry ecosystem, including ensuring that several legal challenges could be better managed.

He said his party expected the amendments to be brought to Parliament by the middle of next year.
