JBPM Lists 760 Flood-risk Areas In Pahang

KUANTAN, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- A total of 760 flood-prone locations in Pahang have been identified by the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in view of the Northeast Monsoon (MTL), which is expected to occur from November until March next year.

Pahang JBPM director Datuk Mohd Razam Taja Rahim said, based on data from the state Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Temerloh district recorded the highest number of areas at 185, followed by Jerantut (106) and Kuala Lipis (88).

“Cameron Highlands district has the lowest number with only 11 areas,” he told reporters after handing over community boats, voluntary fire brigade grants and firefighting certificates at the Pahang JBPM office here today.

He said 930 fire officers and personnel statewide are now fully prepared with duty rosters and equipment inspections at all fire stations. 

“We (Pahang JBPM) have already held several meetings at the state, district and community levels. If floods occur, we will use all available facilities and resources to the maximum,” he said.

At the ceremony, the department handed over 20 community boats to selected voluntary fire brigades and community fire brigades across the state as part of preparations for the flood season.

“To date, JBPM Pahang owns 76 boats of various types, including 14 contributed by government agencies and elected representatives, and we have stationed them at fire stations throughout the state,” he said.
