KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his condolences to the family of activist Shariffuddin Budin, better known as Pak Hunter, who died yesterday.
He described Shariffuddin as a long-time comrade in the struggle and a people’s activist who had made many sacrifices in the movement, including being detained under the Internal Security Act in 1998 when the Reformasi wave started.
“His steadfastness and loyalty to the struggle and the ideals of defending the people never waned despite being tested by tyranny and depravity,” the PKR president said in a Facebook post today.
Anwar said the PKR family and the Reformasi movement mourn his passing and pray that his deeds, sacrifices and struggle will be counted as righteous acts before Allah.
“May his family remain strong and his soul be placed among the righteous,” he said.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil also extended his condolences to Shariffuddin’s family, praying that his soul be blessed with divine mercy and placed among the faithful.
“A dear friend has left us forever. He was a sincere fighter and a tireless reformist who always remained loyal to the Reformasi spirit,” he said.
According to Fahmi, Shariffuddin’s role and contributions will be etched in the history of the struggle to uphold justice and truth.
