UniMAP Launches JAKIM-Accredited Tahfiz TVET Programme

ARAU, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) has launched the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Tahfiz Certification Programme, accredited by Darul Quran under the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM), to develop future professional huffaz (Quran memorisers) with technical skills.

UniMAP Vice-Chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Zaliman Sauli officiated the programme’s soft launch and parent briefing, held today in conjunction with the 2025/2026 Undergraduate Orientation Week at the university’s Pauh Putra campus.

Speaking to reporters, Zaliman said the programme’s initial implementation involves eight students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Technology, the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Technology, and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Technology.

“Insya-Allah, this programme will be expanded in the coming years to enrol more students, producing technocrats, technologists, and engineers who are also skilled in the Quran,” he said.

He said the Tahfiz certification programme modules were fully developed by Darul Quran, providing UniMAP students who are interested in or skilled at memorising the Quran the opportunity to enrol.

Meanwhile, Zaliman said a total of 2,779 new undergraduate students have registered at UniMAP for the 2025/2026 academic session, across 37 programmes offered by the university’s seven faculties.

“New student enrolment at UniMAP has been increasing every year. Last year we received about 2,200 students, while this year it is nearly 2,800,” he said.
