SUNGAI SIPUT, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, today officiated the Perak AgroFest 2025 at the Ladang Infoternak here.
His Royal Highness was accompanied by the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim.
The royal couple was received on arrival by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and his wife, Datin Seri Aezer Zubin.
At the event, Sultan Nazrin also presented awards to 15 individuals in conjunction with the state-level Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen’s Day 2025.
In his welcoming speech, Saarani said the Perak government, through the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Plan, has outlined several targeted initiatives, including strengthening the agro supply chain, modernising the agricultural sector with smart technology and empowering youth in agriculture through enhanced TVET training.
“This effort is also reflected, among others, through the Bawang Perak initiative, which is now being expanded and has gained stronger market presence as a symbol of the success in enhancing the quality and productivity of local agricultural products,” he said.
He added that the state is also pioneering efforts to cultivate Perak coffee as a new high-value commodity, which not only has the potential to become a fresh economic source but also to elevate the state’s name on the international stage.
“These two initiatives prove that Perak not only preserves its agricultural traditions but also dares to explore new horizons for the people’s livelihood, in line with the aspiration to strengthen the food security agenda,” he said.
Saarani said the state’s food security agenda has also been reinforced through the Perak State Blue Economy Roadmap, launched in February, which sets the direction for fisheries development, ports, marine industries, agrotourism and biodiversity conservation.
“It is clear that Perak AgroFest serves as a platform to strengthen farmer networks, expand agricultural ecosystems, drive agrotourism, introduce agro TVET and promote smart technology in the country’s food sector,” he added.
The three-day Perak AgroFest 2025, which runs from Sept 26 to 28, features the participation of more than 60 government departments, agencies and private entities.
Among the activities lined up are the Perdana Forum titled ‘Bumi Subur, Hati Makmur, Pertanian Satu Ibadah’, as well as various exhibition sites, including the Blue Economy, agriculture, paddy, pineapple, innovation and technology, Agro MADANI, veterinarians with Taiping Zoo, and the Laman Empayar Makanan, which will feature hundreds of dishes prepared by local entrepreneurs.
