SEPANG, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to interact and offer words of encouragement to the 34 Malaysians participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission to Gaza on Sunday.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said the Prime Minister will get updates on the mission when he visits the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) at the Malaysian Islamic Consultative Council (MAPIM) Central Warehouse here.

He said the Prime Minister's presence would boost the morale not only of the Malaysian volunteers but all those from various countries participating in the GSF.

“Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was present to give support, and today I myself also conveyed words of encouragement.

"God willing, this Sunday, the Prime Minister will be with them. The presence of the country's number one leader will certainly provide great encouragement to the 34 Malaysian volunteers," he said during a press conference at the SNCC here today.

Earlier, Mohd Na'im interacted with several Malaysian volunteers involved in the mission and offered prayers for the smooth running of the GSF mission.

A GSF participant, Zizi Kirana, in an online interaction session, said she was passionate about making the GSF mission a success to deliver aid to the people of Palestine in Gaza.

"Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God), everyone is doing well, and we are enthusiastic to continue the voyage. Whatever the challenges, I hope this mission can be completed, God willing," said the famous singer.

A total of 34 Malaysians are participating in the GSF mission, which is currently in international waters near Greece and is expected to enter the yellow zone at any time before it is scheduled to arrive in Gaza waters at the end of this month.

They are part of activists from 45 countries sailing to Gaza to break the siege on the enclave, and they are resolute in facing various obstacles and threats, including drone attacks.

Malaysia is the first country to recognise the mission through the support of the Prime Minister.

The GSF voyage across the Mediterranean Sea carries supplies of food, medicine, and a message of peace urging the cessation of war and the hunger crisis, in addition to demanding the opening of humanitarian corridor access to Gaza.
