MELAKA, Sept 23 (Bernama) -- The state government, through the Malaysian Cooperative Commission (SKM), will be organising digitalisation workshops for cooperative entrepreneurs in Melaka this October and November.
Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Allex Seah Shoo Chin said the initiative is to empower cooperative entrepreneurs with the latest technological developments in the business sector, while also enhancing their economic prospects.
“Digitalisation knowledge is very important today, particularly for cooperative entrepreneurs to enhance their skills and grow their businesses.
“These workshops are open to all cooperative entrepreneurs under SKM, helping them upgrade their micro cooperatives to small, medium, and beyond,” he told reporters here today.
He said this after officiating the soft launch of the Rasa Melaka by Angkasa project, which was also attended by Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (Angkasa) president, Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Fattah Abdullah, and Melaka SKM director, Mustafa Kamal Mohd Nor.
Seah said to date, there are 504 cooperatives from various sectors registered under Melaka SKM, comprising 26 large and medium cooperatives, 61 small cooperatives, and 417 micro cooperatives, with a membership of 173,000.
At the same time, he said Melaka SKM is ready to assist cooperatives that are inactive or have ceased operations in resuming their business activities, which include providing guidance and funding in the form of capital and business equipment..
“These cooperatives will be guided and monitored from time to time to help them get back on their feet and remain active in the industry,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said that this year, the state government has channelled RM300,000 to Melaka SKM to implement various programmes, activities, and initiatives aimed at strengthening the cooperative sector in the state.
“The allocation is higher than the RM200,000 provided last year, which reflects the state government’s commitment to supporting the cooperative movement in Melaka,” he added.
