KUALA KANGSAR, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- The Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council (MPKK) intends to establish the ‘Hari Kuale Lenggang’ as an iconic biennial event to raise the royal town's profile as a historic, cultural and sustainable tourism hub in Perak.

Its president Dr Sakduddin Zamli said the inaugural Kuale Lenggang Day, a community programme held yesterday by MPKK and Visual Motion Lab, in collaboration with Think City and Yayasan Hasanah, attracted more than 7,000 visitors to Jalan Kangsar.

“Kuale Lenggang Day can enliven Kuala Kangsar as a tourist attraction and community hub, while generating economic spillover for local traders and tourism industry players.

“Traders and entrepreneurs were thankful for the space and platform provided and expressed hope that such a programme would continue as it increases their income and promote the uniqueness of Kuala Kangsar products,” he said in a statement today.

Activities held during the event included the ‘Subuh Macam Jumaat’ morning programme, Lenggang Kuale 5KM Fun Run, Heritage and Cultural Explorace, 25km Bicycle Ride, Ulu Bekor Orang Asli dance performance, heritage food sales, cultural performances by the Malay, Chinese and Indian communities and Hop On, Hop Off bus tours of the town’s tourist spots.

Meanwhile, Perak Tourism (services division) executive officer Mohd Fauzan Baharudin, on behalf of the Perak Tourism Director, said the organisation of Kuale Lenggang Day aligns well with the Malaysia MADANI aspirations that emphasise humanitarian values and unity as the pillars of national development.

“Kuale Lenggang Day has the potential to become a major attraction not only for locals but also foreign tourists. The unique heritage showcased can elevate Kuala Kangsar as a world-class cultural destination, while reaping economic benefits for the local community,” he added.
