Jalan Burma Cordoned Off Due To Sinkhole - MBPP

21/09/2025 04:16 PM

GEORGE TOWN, Sept 21 (Bernama) — Jalan Burma was temporarily closed today for urgent repairs after a sinkhole appeared near the junction with Transfer Road.

The Penang City Council (MBPP) announced that the closure involved both directions from Penang Road, namely from Komtar and from the Penang police contingent headquarters (IPK) towards Jalan Burma, for immediate repairs to be carried out.

Following this, MBPP said traffic would be diverted to Jalan Lim Chwee Leong during the repair period.

“MBPP traffic wardens and traffic police were also deployed at the location to divert traffic flow,” according to the council post on its Facebook.

In this regard, MBPP advised road users to plan their journey and use alternative routes to avoid congestion.

Earlier, a picture went viral on social media showing a road subsidence incident where a sinkhole formed.
