KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- The Embassy of China in Malaysia welcomed the public on Saturday for an Open Day showcasing Chinese cultural heritage and reaffirming the enduring friendship between Malaysia and China.
Held in conjunction with the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, Charge d’Affaires Zheng Xuefang said the event served as a platform for Malaysians to better understand Chinese traditions and to further deepen people-to-people connections.
In his welcoming remarks, he described the Mid-Autumn Festival as one of China’s most important traditional celebrations, symbolising family reunion, unity and good fortune.
He added that in Malaysia, the festival has developed unique local characteristics, reflecting the country’s cultural diversity and inclusiveness.
“China and Malaysia are friendly neighbours across the sea. No matter how the international landscape changes, our countries have always respected and supported each other,” he said, adding that the strong bond between both nations has grown from strength to strength through trade, cooperation and frequent high-level exchanges.
Guests were introduced to a variety of activities showcasing Chinese heritage and culture, including Chinese knot making, herbal fragrance workshops, float-paint bookmark crafting, and mooncake making.
Attendees were also treated to Chinese dumplings and traditional drinks, and had the opportunity to try on traditional Chinese costumes specially prepared by the embassy.
The event also drew participation from Management and Science University (MSU) students as well as local high school students.
MSU law student Jordan Lim, 18, said it was his first visit to the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, driven by curiosity to learn more about China.
“This is my first time here, and I have to say that after seeing all the activities, it was absolutely the right decision to spend my weekend at the embassy’s Open Day,” he said.
He added that Malaysia and China have shared diplomatic relations for decades, and events like this help to strengthen people-to-people connections between the two countries.
