IKIM Calls For Global Moves To Stop Israeli Attacks

17/09/2025 02:41 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 (Bernama) -- The Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) today urged the Islamic world and the international community to take urgent actions to halt Israel’s inhumane attacks.

IKIM director-general Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Mohamed Azam Mohamed Adil said these measures should include Malaysia and Islamic countries proposing an emergency draft resolution at the United Nations (UN) to activate an international military mission or peacekeeping force to stop the attacks.

He added that the Islamic world and the international community must also ensure that the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) initiative is given full protection and permission to enter Gaza.

“This is aimed at establishing a continuous humanitarian corridor to enable the delivery of food, medical aid and shelter to the people of Gaza,” he said in a statement today.

He said other measures include for Arab and Islamic countries to take firm steps by cutting off all official ties with Israel as a strong protest against the atrocities committed.

He said sanctions should also be imposed on import and export dealings with Israel to exert economic pressure, thereby weakening support for the regime, in addition to broadening boycotts and restrictions on all forms of cooperation such as research, education, culture and tourism with Israel.

“Arab and Islamic countries collectively must also bring Israel’s genocide case to the International Court of Justice (ICJ),” he said.

Mohamed Azam stressed that these measures would not only save lives but also strengthen global awareness that the Palestinian issue is a universal humanitarian concern that must be addressed collectively.

“These steps will reflect the determination of Islamic countries not merely to condemn rhetorically but to push for change through global legal and political mechanisms,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Azam said IKIM also fully supports Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s firm statement at the Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha, Qatar on Sept 15, which condemned Israel’s air strikes on Doha as inhumane, a violation of international law, an encroachment on the sovereignty of an independent state, and a threat to regional security.

“IKIM is of the view that the attacks are not only a threat to Qatar but also to the entire Islamic world and the global community, while challenging the principle of state sovereignty and undermining international peace,” he said.

When delivering Malaysia’s National Statement at the Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha on Monday, Anwar called for severe punitive measures against Israel, while strongly condemning the regime’s air strikes on Doha and the ongoing massacres in Gaza.

Anwar said decisive and conclusive action must be taken as mere condemnation will not stop the missile strikes, and repeated statements will not free Palestine.
