JERTIH, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- Kampung Keluang has been chosen as a model for drug prevention programmes from the primary school level through the Kampung Angkat and Sekolah Angkat MADANI initiative under the National Anti-Drugs Agency (NADA).

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said Kampung Keluang was chosen as the adopted village due to the drug abuse and addiction problem in Besut, which recorded one of the highest rates in Terengganu at 872 individuals per 100,000 residents.

“Through this initiative, more structured and integrated drug prevention programmes can be implemented at the grassroots level.

“Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Keluang has also been selected to provide anti-drug education and instil awareness from the school level,” he said at the launch of the NADA Kampung Angkat and Sekolah Angkat MADANI initiative here today.

The ceremony was also attended by NADA director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh.

Saifuddin Nasution said the Finance Ministry had approved an allocation of RM1 million for NADA under the programme to implement several projects in Kampung Keluang, including upgrading the futsal court, repairing the entry road and square at the Community Development Department (Kemas) kindergarten, installing solar LED street lights and repairing the main road around the village.

“The allocation also covers gotong-royong and community activities, including minor repairs at the Kampung Keluang Mosque, repainting the Kemas kindergarten, cleaning the main road and drains around the village, as well as drug prevention awareness initiatives,” he said.

He added that SK Keluang has seen improvements to its facilities, including new canteen tables and chairs, air conditioning and a PA system, as well as minor repairs such as fixing the roof of the school surau and canteen.

Saifuddin Nasution said the programme’s success depends heavily on the active participation of the entire Kampung Keluang community in supporting NADA’s initiatives.
