PPM Sets 10 Strategic Directions To Stay Relevant Amid New Challenges

MERSING, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- The Scouts Association of Malaysia (PPM) has set 10 strategic directions with new high-impact strategies to ensure scouting stays relevant amid current challenges, said National Chief Scout Major General (Rtd) Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Zin Bidin.

He said they include implementing engaging and challenging programmes, such as digital scouting, green technology, cyber security, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and social entrepreneurship.

“PPM will also strengthen 21st-century training systems to produce youth who are competitive in the digital era and globalisation,” he said in his speech at the 27th Johor Scouts General Assembly (PAPJ27) at Pantai Tanjung Leman here today.

In addition, Mohd Zin said PPM will expand global cooperation by opening more opportunities for participation in international jamborees, student exchanges and regional humanitarian projects.

According to him, PPM has more than 600,000 active members and is one of the largest youth organisations in the Asia-Pacific region.

He said the core values of scouting continue to shape generations who are the pride of the nation and drivers of the future.

“Scout values such as loyalty, integrity, discipline, courage and leadership have shaped an excellent generation that is the pride of the nation and the driving force of the country’s future,” he said.

He said scouts will also build community and corporate networks by forming strategic partnerships with technology companies, non-governmental organisations and educational institutions to enrich youth experiences.

“PPM aims to be the leading MADANI youth movement by nurturing a generation that is not only disciplined but also innovative, creative and relevant to current challenges.

“At the same time, this new direction will elevate PPM to a higher level, on par with international youth organisations,” he added.

The assembly was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and also attended by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul.

PAPJ27, which runs from today until Sept 17, gathers more than 4,000 scouts as well as 500 representatives from government agencies and higher education institutions from within and outside the country, including Indonesia, Brunei, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore.

The 'Forum Temu Anwar - Pengakap' is one of the main events of PAPJ27, alongside more than 44 base activities covering scouting knowledge, STEM elements, adventure challenges, culture and environmental sustainability programmes.
