Prabowo Calls For Solidarity After Israel Strike On Qatar

JAKARTA, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is urging international solidarity in response to Israel’s strike on Qatar’s capital Doha, warning the attack threatens Middle East stability.

He made the call during talks on Friday with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at Lusail Palace, Doha, days after the September 9 strike that drew widespread condemnation.

In a statement, the Presidential Secretariat Bureau said Prabowo called on “friendly nations to take an active role in maintaining geopolitical balance and promoting international dialogue”.

He reaffirmed Indonesia’s support for Qatar’s sovereignty and urged the global community to denounce aggression that harms civilians.

“Diplomacy based on humanity, justice, and peace is a crucial component for a more stable future,” the statement said.

Sheikh Tamim welcomed Jakarta’s support and pledged closer cooperation with Indonesia on global and humanitarian issues, according to the statement.

Leaders who have travelled to Qatar since the strike include United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Israel launched the strike on residential buildings in Doha last Tuesday, targeting several members of Hamas’s Political Bureau.

Hamas negotiators were in Doha to discuss the latest ceasefire and prisoner exchange proposal from United States (US) President Donald Trump.
