KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- National men’s singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao’s hopes of advancing to the semi-finals of the Hong Kong Open were dashed after he lost to second seed Li Shi Feng of China in the quarter-finals today.

The world number 23 was forced into a gruelling rubber set before bowing out to Shi Feng 20-22, 21-14, 20-22 in a one-hour-18-minute battle at the Hong Kong Coliseum.

It was Jun Hao’s sixth defeat in seven encounters against Shi Feng.

The loss also ended Malaysia’s men’s singles campaign in the Super 500 tournament.

Shi Feng is scheduled to face France’s Christo Popov in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin also fell in the quarter-finals after being ousted by China’s Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping 16-21, 10-21.
