KOTA KINABALU, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has ordered the immediate activation of all district disaster management committees, especially in flood-prone areas due to the current uncertain weather.
The activation was vital to ensure that readiness was at an optimum level, he added.
“It will speed up coordination between security agencies, technical departments and local authorities to face any possibility of natural disasters.
“With the activation, aid can be mobilised faster, especially rescue work, victim evacuation and preparation of necessities to relief centres,” he said in a statement today.
He also reminded residents to be aware of weather alerts from the Malaysian Meteorological Department and to follow instructions from the authorities to avoid risks that could threaten their safety.
The Sabah state disaster management committee has said that 396 individuals from 126 families were evacuated in Beaufort and Penampang this afternoon.
