ISKANDAR PUTERI, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- The Johor government is considering extending education assistance to students from the state pursuing higher education in Morocco.
State Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid said currently, such assistance is provided through the Johor Islamic Religious Council to students in Jordan and Egypt.
“At present, there is no specific aid for students in Morocco, as there are only four of them from Johor.
“However, we will visit them there, and I have asked the student association to write to the state government on the type of assistance needed,” he told reporters after officiating at the Mandate Ceremony and Presentation of Contributions to Johor Students in the Middle East at Eko Galleria here today.
He also advised students and parents to seek guidance from the Johor Islamic Religious Department before selecting religious institutions abroad, noting that some are not recognised as they do not align with the teachings of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah.
Meanwhile, Mohd Fared urged mosques and surau statewide to continue performing solat hajat (prayer of need) following recent tremors in Segamat and Batu Pahat.
“This prayer should be encouraged at all times, not only during disasters such as earthquakes, but also to seek overall well-being,” he said.
He added that a solat hajat for the safety of Palestinians will be held at the Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque, Johor Bahru, this Sunday.
