KUCHING, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- The grand Sarawak-level 2025 Malaysia Day celebrations will be held in Bintulu from Sept 14 to 16, with various official events and activities in a people-oriented concept.
Themed ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur Dalam Malaysia’, this year's celebration is expected to attract thousands of visitors.
According to Sarawak Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, who is also the Minister-in-Charge of the celebration, the three-day event is held in conjunction with the 62nd anniversary of the formation of Malaysia.
"It will serve as a platform for unifying the multi-racial community, as well as expressing the spirit of patriotism and love for the country.
"The programme will include a combination of official events and people-friendly activities, encompassing cultural performances, exhibitions, parades and community activities that showcase Sarawak's diverse cultures,” he told a media conference after the Sarawak-level 2025 Malaysia Day Celebration Steering Committee meeting in Bintulu today.
He said Bintulu was chosen as the location for this year's celebrations to allow the local community and tourists to enjoy the uniqueness of the district, besides strengthening the spirit of unity and national integration.
He added that the main events set to be held include an interfaith thanksgiving ceremony, a thanksgiving event, the Malaysia Day Run, the Malaysia Day celebration gathering and the people's concert around Bintulu town.
Dr Rundi said the Yang DiPertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg are expected to attend the celebration.
"We also would like to request that all government buildings, business premises, schools and private residences proudly fly the Jalur Gemilang to invigorate the celebration.
"I urge all Sarawak people to converge on the Old Bintulu Airport on Sept 16 at 8 pm to celebrate Malaysia Day together,” he said.
The event will be streamed live via the Sarawak Public Communications Unit's (UKAS) Facebook page, YouTube and UKAS Channel.
