Nearly 3,000 UMK Students Become Entrepreneurs While Pursuing Studies

BACHOK, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Nearly 3,000 Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) students have become entrepreneurs between January and June this year, while still pursuing their studies.

UMK vice-chancellor Prof Dr Arham Abdullah said this achievement was the result of the university’s continuous encouragement through the UMK Entrepreneurship Institute (UMKEI), which has implemented various programmes and initiatives designed to nurture students who are competitive in business.

He said the students were able to generate incomes ranging from RM2,000 to RM10,000 a month through ventures in various sectors, including food and beverage, apparel and health products.

“The university is committed to continuing its support and fostering the entrepreneurial spirit among students. In fact, all students are encouraged to establish a University Student Company (SSU) registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).

“Almost every year, we have students who have become entrepreneurs while still studying, earning between RM2,000 and RM10,000 a month. It is a proud achievement,” he told reporters after officiating the Vice-Chancellor’s 200-Day Aspiration Narrative ceremony and the 68th National Day celebration at Dewan Universiti Tuanku Canselor at the UMK Bachok Campus today.

Commenting on the National Day celebration, Arham said the university introduced something different this year with a fly-past involving 10 remote-controlled aircraft and fighter jets.

“We invited a remote-controlled aircraft team to perform a fly-past, carrying the Jalur Gemilang and the university flag for about 15 minutes.

“The performance received an enthusiastic response from more than 1,000 UMK staff,” he added.
