KL Mayor Receives Findings Of PAC Positively, To Focus On Closing Governance Gaps

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Kuala Lumpur mayor, Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif said she received positively all the comments of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) regarding land development in the capital to close the governance gaps and provide clearer standard operating procedures (SOPs) in land transfer and development matters.

She said the 658-page report raised 11 issues that occurred before she assumed office as mayor a year ago, and it should be used as the basis for the governance reform of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

Maimunah said the implementation of governance reforms was also part of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) set for her by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“I was asked to reform the governance of DBKL and this is a KPI given to me by the Prime Minister. This report can help me, where the shortcomings are, and I don’t need to do the analysis because the PAC has already done it,” she said when appearing as a guest on the Bernama TV Ruang Bicara programme titled “4Ps Driving Kuala Lumpur Development”, here last night.

According to her, the PAC's findings will be used as a reference in developing stronger SOPs so that DBKL has a cohesive governance system that can be inherited by the leadership after this.

"I want to leave a cohesive system so that the next mayor will look at the system and, God willing, continue it," she said.

Meanwhile, Maimunah vowed to strengthen internal controls following the PAC report that reprimanded DBKL over land transfer issues.

She said DBKL had begun examining all the issues raised, with a detailed chronology being prepared to identify weaknesses and room for improvement, including measures to strengthen the agency's governance.

Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa was previously reported to have instructed the Federal Territories Department and DBKL to examine all the recommendations put forward by PAC.
