KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad (PAMB) and Prudence Foundation today launched the ‘Cha-Ching On the Go’ interactive financial literacy programme to inculcate financial management skills among primary schoolchildren.
PAMB said the first phase of the implementation is targeted at over 17,400 pupils in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
It added that the programme, which was developed from the original Cha-Ching initiative in 2011, aims to make financial education more fun and accessible to children through activities and interactive games.
"The new phase also brings learning experiences outside the classroom to ensure that children from communities that are given less attention also have the opportunity to learn important money management skills,” PABM said in a statement today.
The programme, organised in collaboration with Pertubuhan Kebajikan Dana Kita, features the Jelajah (Tour) series using the Cha-Ching On the Go truck, Jelajah Ilmu Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Mobile Lab bus, which will visit selected schools and housing areas.
In the first year of its implementation, the mobile programme will visit 30 government primary schools and 12 People's Housing Project (PPR) communities around Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
Speaking at the launch of the ‘Cha-Ching On the Go’ Programme today, Deputy Minister of National Unity Saraswathy Kandasami said that through the cooperation among all parties, it not only strengthens the national policies, but also bring about significant changes to the communities, in line with the spirit of MADANI Malaysia to cultivate a financially literate, resilient and inclusive generation.
PAMB Chief Marketing and Partnerships Distribution Officer Eric Wong, meanwhile, said that through the initiative, it hopes to make financial education fun and interactive from a young age to equip the new generation with the skills required to build a secure future.
Prudence Foundation Executive Director Nicole Ngeow said financial literacy is an important life skill, and through the Cha-Ching On the Go interactive approach, children can learn basic financial management in a fun way.
"At Prudence Foundation, we are proud to witness Cha-Ching On the Go bring fun and educational Cha-Ching activities to children in communities that may have less access to such education,” she said.
PAMB said it intends to expand the programme nationwide to ensure children from all backgrounds can learn important skills in money management from a young age.
Cha-Ching, which was developed with Cartoon Network, teaches children aged seven to 12 four key financial concepts: earn, save, spend and donate. Teaching through video animations and experience-based modules makes learning more fun, with support items provided for teachers and parents as well.
Since its introduction in schools in 2014, the Cha-Ching curriculum has trained 3,851 teachers and benefited 283,250 pupils nationwide. In Asia and Africa, it has trained nearly 90,000 teachers and educated over 3.2 million students.
